AVID Language Arts 7: Mrs. Cunningham Greetings for the 2010-2011 year… My name is Mrs. Cunningham, and I am the 7th Grade AVID Language Arts teacher. Teaching has been my adventure for 20 years. In my class, I am serious about bringing out the “author” in every student. My class curriculum, based on the Sunshine State Standards, concentrates on helping the students develop better reading and writing skills. Another facet of my job is to help students build up their self-confidence in order to reach a higher level of success. Each student will have an interactive notebook. Students will use this notebook and the Cornell Notes format to help them keep organized. Throughout the year, students will learn about writing essays, stories, poems, and plays. Students will also learn strategies for analyzing literature, and how to write a research paper. On a personal note, my favorite activities are reading books and camping during the summer. Last year, my son and I camped our way to the Grand Canyon and back. Originally, I am from Michigan, but I have enjoyed the Florida sunshine for many years. I am available for after school assistance on Thursdays 2:30-3:30.
