What is School-wide Positive Behavior Support?
Positive Behavior Support is a proactive way of handling discipline. In a school setting, it cannot be assumed that students know correct behaviors. Children come from different backgrounds and cultures that view behavior in their own unique ways. When a child misbehaves, the school views it as a skill deficit. Therefore, students are taught appropriate school behaviors and expectations. Students are rewarded when they display the expected behavior. Consequences are still given for inappropriate behavior.
Discipline:
Minor forms are used to document problem behaviors and re-teach the expectation. Each minor behavior must be documented on a minor form and parent contact must be made. After three (3) minors for the same behavior, the next incident goes on a referral with the three (3) minors attached. Major behaviors are documented on a referral.
Mustang Money:
Mustang Money is used to reward expected behaviors and may be used for a variety of rewards.
Rewards:
Mustang money can be used by students at the Mustang Mall, at dances, and to participate in PBS activities. PBS activities include kickball once a semester, field day, boo grams, valentine grams, etc. Teachers can also provide opportunities on their own using mustang money. Examples: homework passes, teacher chair, rewards, etc.
